Mandrake S007 - The Treasure Hunt (week 7)

Somehow this adventure reminds me of Dan Brown's famous novel "Angels and Daemons". The protagonist if after some clues scattered over different places with each clue linking to the next. It's amusing to think this Mandrake adventure was written more than 75 years ago. Incredible Lee Falk.

So the jump into the troublesome neighbourhood has taken place. You can expect some non-stop action from now onward.

It is purely a coincidence that the previous Sy Barry strip I had coloured had the same sequence, even the same panels were used. Take a look.
That was the very first story I had tried with my amateurish skills. Too vibrant shades were used which were not very soothing to the eye. Since then I have learnt to be a little more sober with the colours.

Mandrake S007 - The Treasure Hunt (week 6)

The story so far:

Mandrake and Lothar, while crossing the great Sahara desert, come across a young lady named Betty Gray being chased and terrorised by two dacoits. They save her only to come to know about a strange treasure hunt.

Betty tells them about her late uncle Roger, who was a world traveller with a weird sense of humour. Uncle Roger had locked his fortune in a vault and scattered the five-digit combination key to the vault in 5 different places of the world in form of clues. Each clue holds a number and link to the next clue. Other heirs of Uncle Roger want to eliminate Betty to claim all the fortune for themselves. Mandrake promises Betty to help in the quest.

The first clue leads them to the pyramid of cheops. They are up against not only the trying conditions but also a hostile group of competitors who won't hesitate to adopt any method to silence Betty (and Mandrake).

Some excellent artwork by Phil Davis makes this interesting adventure doubly entertaining. You can actually feel the atmosphere inside the pyramid by the postures of Betty and Mandrake as they enter this low height dungeon.

Phantom D179 - Nukes (day 34)

Today's strip is signed "Falk and Barry" but it seems Sy Barry did little on this strip and passed on without much correction. To the familiar, it appears the job of Olessan (his long time assistant). In fact, this entire week may be credited to Olessan for we see the same old scenario of daring parachute jump into a hostile country. Stock panels are used in many places. Sy might have taken a week's off. No evidence though, just a surmise.

Wishing all the readers and visitors a very happy, bright, joyful and prosperous Diwali. Happiness Always.

Continuing with this interesting Mandrake story. The chase for the treasure is about to begin. The rivals are doing their best to stop Betty and Mandrake from getting on to the trip and won't hesitate to adopt any method to achieve their goal.

Phantom D179 - Nukes (day 29)

A new Asterix album has been launched a few days ago on 24th October. It is after a gap of eight years that Asterix is having a new adventure. The new story is set in Scotland where the indomitable Gauls have never set foot before.

Few glimpses are available here at facebook page of ipcomics. Another page (English) can be seen here.

A new team of writer - illustrator is doing the job under the supervision of master artist and one of the two original creators 'Albert Uderzo'. By the initial looks, the book is looking very promising.

I am eagerly waiting for it to become available in Indian market so that I can add this one to my collection of previous 34 books.

The new creators are Didier Conrad (illustrations) and Jean-Yves Ferri (story) who are said to be great fans of Asterix themselves since their childhood.
